Okay, you've seen your neighbor hauling his ATVs around and you are ready to join in the fun, so what now, how do you find the right ATV for you. Here are a few simple tips to get you pointed in the right direction.
Budget
Decide prior to looking around how much you can spend on an ATV, if you don't you may end up with too many accessories or an over priced ATV and you have any fun using it. Just pre-determine you budget and STICK TO IT!
Features
First there is the transmission. Just as in a car there are two types: manual and automatic. If you are seasoned motorcycle rider then you can look at the manual, but if you aren't or this is your first ATV I would stick to the automatic. It will make your initial learning phase a pleasant experience.
Next thing to look at is the starting method; there are 3 types: kick, pull and electric. Electric is by far the easiest, but it uses a battery so make sure you find one with a kick or pull start as a backup.
Finally, you need to think about if you are going to go with 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive. I would recommend that if you are just starting out to go with the 2WD - it will give you a taste of ATV-ing but won't cost as much. Once you have some experience and are ready to go "all out" then upgrade to a 4WD.
Remember, buying an ATV isn't like buying a latte. You are making an investment and it should be treated as one.
